A Surprising Comeback from PokerRoom

Although the dot com movement brought many fads, there are still many businesses who managed to survive and thrive for years. The top survivors were websites that offered poker online.  PokerRoom is undoubtedly one of the earliest websites that offered online poker. The website was started by Oskar Hornell and Claes Lidell in 1999 and in the beginning, the site was just a basic online power room compared to what features are available today; however, those basic features are what ultimately led to PokerRoom’s success.

Over the years, it become the top website on the Ongame Network and with the help of Chris Moneymaker winning the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas, PokerRoom’s became one of the top online sites. If you aren’t familiar with Moneymaker, you have likely been living under a rock.  He is just the first man to turn an online satellite into a WSOP Main Event title. PokerRoom and other sites popular afterwards as many players wanted to have the same success as Moneymaker did.

The entire Ongame Network was bought out by bwin, further strengthening PokerRoom, but then the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was brought into action, thus leaving no choice but to put out of the US and for those players to find a different site for cash poker games. Although users left the website, it still remained busy. Bwin decided to try and restore the popularity of the website when the traffic began to slow down and more tables were being left empty, thus creating Bwin Poker.

Josef Rantamaki, Bwin SEO Manager, recently announced that the once popular poker site, PokerRoom, would reopen and offer more real money poker games. Rantamaki released this statement about the event: “Wow! PokerRoom will be re-launched and once again offering real money poker games.”  It took a few weeks for the site to go live after the initial tweet, but now PokerRoom is available once again.

PokerRoom is aiming to make the reopening of the site as easy and stress free as possible. One of the great things PokerRoom is doing is allowing player’s funds to be reserved if they haven’t already transferred their PokerRoom account to another online poker site. One downside to the reopening of the site is that any tickers or player points that were made will no longer apply, thus creating a fresh slate for players. If players registered after 2007 and only played for fun and never really deposited funds or played with real money, they would need to register for a new account.

The expectation of reopening PokerRoom is to gain a large amount of traffic and to bring back old players. Players from the United States will not able to play because of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, but because players from other countries can still play, PokerRoom is still offering a large variety of poker games.

PokerRoom is celebrating each and every new member by giving members generous welcome bonuses, so it is most definitely the time to get on with the excitement as this is only for a limited time. There are so many new opportunities being made every day in the online gambling world, so take a part of it today.
